The Explorer’s Guide to Surface Life
Lotus Wasp Warrior
Explorer’s Guide Contribution Written By Acclaimed Interstellar Survival-Exploration Entrepreneur and Nature Documentarian Sir Davis Astenbarrow
Despite the vulnerability of the first phase of the hive, the Queen will not lay Warrior eggs until the first wave of Worker wasps has already begun expanding the hive. This means the queen must be quite vigilant in protecting her young Workers until the Warriors grow strong enough to take over the task. At that point, the Queen will delegate the task of defending the hive solely to the Warriors and focus on laying as many new eggs as possible.
This next phase of the hive’s growth becomes exponentially troublesome for any unfortunate neighbors of the Lotus Wasps: most newborn Warriors will immediately and aggressively expand outward from the hive.
When a favorable location is found, the Queen can hatch new fertile Queens to establish additional hives—provided that there is enough available lotus fruit to support this expansion. Scarcity can lead to conflict between hives.
While a lone Lotus Wasp Warrior is usually no great threat to the average armored Surface-dweller, in larger groups these fierce creatures can quickly overwhelm unwary travelers. A vital survival tool to combat these pernicious swarms is the trusty, patented Asten-Scout™ Drone!
Toss one of these loyal little spheres into the air to activate a defensive, automated drone capable of protective measures, keeping watch, scouting ahead, and much more. Don’t leave your dome without them!
For longer or more dangerous expeditions, don’t hesitate to rent or buy a sturdier companion: the high storage capacity and indefatigable power supply of the Asten-brand Packhound™ transport bot will never let you down! Ask about our cross-rental combo packages to take full advantage of seasonal promos!
— Sir Davis Astenbarrow —
Captured from the internal monologue of Harvester Wes Jackson:
Within seconds, I could see the steeloak on top of the hive looming ahead, roving swarms of bright red lotus wasps buzzing around the base of its trunk. The three scouting drones with me went hurtling off straight toward the swarms and, with a series of loud clicks and whistles, baited them into a wild chase away from the tree.
